Abstract

This paper will discuss the origin of the open regime in Spain, in the experimental system that was implemented in Montesinos in the correctional prison in Valencia, during the first half of the 19th century. Almost two centuries later, the influence of the practice carried out by that system is evident in the current Spanish open regime penitentiary, this will be addressed in its various forms, progress, and limits.
